Brief communication: Improving ERA5-Land soil temperature in permafrost regions using an optimized multi-layer snow scheme

چکیده

Abstract. We previously reported a notable warm bias in ERA5-Land soil temperature permafrost regions that was supposedly being caused by an underestimation of snow density. In this study, we implemented and evaluated new multi-layer scheme the land surface ERA5-Land, i.e., HTESSEL, with revised densification parameterizations. compared temperatures from numerical experiments observations original single-layer scheme. The HTESSEL significantly improved representation to ERA5-Land. daily winter reduced about 0.6–3.0 ?C across 522 observing stations high-latitude regions, resulting modeled near-surface extent (11.0–12.9×106 km2 during 2001–2018), comparing reasonably observed estimates for continuous discontinuous areas. therefore suggest better-resolved profile should be included next-generation reanalyses as first step towards improving permafrost.

Evaluation of VIIRS Land Surface Temperature Using CREST-SAFE Air, Snow Surface, and Soil Temperature Data

In this study, the Visible Infrared Imager Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) Land Surface Temperature (LST) Environmental Data Record (EDR) was evaluated against snow surface (T-skin) and near-surface air temperature (T-air) ground observations recorded at the Cooperative Remote Sensing Science and Technology Center—Snow Analysis and Field Experiment (CREST-SAFE), located in Caribou, ME, USA during the ...

Dependence of C-Band Backscatter on Ground Temperature, Air Temperature and Snow Depth in Arctic Permafrost Regions

Microwave remote sensing has found numerous applications in areas affected by permafrost and seasonally frozen ground. In this study, we focused on data obtained by the Advanced Scatterometer (ASCAT, C-band) during winter periods when the ground is assumed to be frozen. This paper discusses the relationships of ASCAT backscatter with snow depth, air and ground temperature through correlations a...

Improving Land Surface Temperature Retrievals over Mountainous Regions

Algorithms for Land Surface Temperature (LST) retrieval from infrared measurements are usually sensitive to the amount of water vapor present in the atmosphere. The Satellite Application Facilities on Climate Monitoring and Land Surface Analysis (CM SAF and LSA SAF) are currently compiling a 25 year LST Climate data record (CDR), which uses water vapor information from ERA-Int reanalysis. Howev...

An Optimized Virtual Scheme for Reducing Collisions in MAC Layer

The main function of Medium Access Control (MAC) is to share the channel efficiently between all nodes. In the real-time scenario, there will be certain amount of wastage in bandwidth due to back-off periods. More bandwidth will be wasted in idle state if the back-off period is very high and collision may occur if the back-off period is small. So, an optimization is needed for this problem. The...
